2019 New Year's Resolution & Goals

Congratulations!


We've made it through yet another year, although it always feels funny to create New Year Resolutions because let's be honest the school year didn't exactly start over now did it? But maybe you're not in school anymore. We are getting older and phasing out of college at this point. Maybe creating New Year Resolutions makes more sense for the working class part of America. There's no real start or finish time-frame for people who work in the healthcare field or those who work in the entertainment industry or what have you so you need a reset button.

 

Reflection

Looking back on 2018 I can say that I set out with some things in mind and I kept to them. I started this re-branded blog on January 26, 2018, and with that I made it my New Year Resolution to be more ACTIVE in 2018. I wanted that to apply to many different aspects of who I am. More active in my intent to spend time with others, to build certain relationships that I could see being more long-term in my adult years. More active in my journey to ExplorHER, "HER" as in the woman I am becoming; trying to navigate my likes and dislikes. I wanted to try new things and it required me to really get out of the house more, In addition, I wanted to show the people in my life that I'm not a fluke, I'm not busy like I was in those last couple years of college, I didn't want to be a party-pooper anymore. I wanted to show that I can endure and have fun at social outings.


And I did it


I did all of those things I set out to do. I started up my "Girls' Night" events which were rebranded to "ExplorHER" events. I tried something new almost every other month. I got just a little more out of my shell. I discovered new things about myself and I made commitments to some of the things I love. I've been doing aerial for going on 6 months now and to have finally found something consistent that was a workout for me was HUGE!!! Now that, along with other things, is spilling over into 2019 and I'm ready to tackle on a new resolution.

 
2019: The Year of Following My Intuition, or for lack of a better word: my gut.

Last year I had several instances where I would regret doing something because I let logic take hold and make the decisions for me. Granted neither option would have a negative outcome on my life. I just wished I'd followed my instincts, my intuition, my gut, or what have you. I would have felt better about my decisions and, that's what I'm going with this year.


In addition to my overall resolution, I'm including a few goals under that. 2019 is also meant to be my Year of Yes: Food Edition. In mid 2018 I read "Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person" by Shonda Rhimes, creator of TGIT: Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder and so much more. After reading her book it inspired me to do the same but, with my own twist.


Now in my Year of Yes: Food Edition, I plan to try new foods. If I'm out with someone and they tell me "You should try this!", I',m going to try it. I'm going to do my very best to give everything a chance. I do have some stipulations put in place such as I won't eat anything slimy and I wont eat a bug/insect. So no, don't try to get me to eat anything like that but everything else is fair game I guess. Check out next years' reflection to see how that goes.


Gym Time, it's the best and the worst time.


I am also making it a goal of mine to be more healthy. It's a constant battle that I have with myself but, I cannot be upset about my weight if I'm not willing to do something about it. Like I said earlier I started doing aerial and it's a consistent part of my life now. As I get into 2019 I'm trying to build upon it and change my direction of thinking. In doing so, I'm not going to the gym to lose weight, I'm going to the gym to work on things that will help me become a better aerialist. I've added one day a week to my workout regiment, and I'm hoping to increase it to 3-4 days a week by the end of the year. These days may consist of either more aerial days or more gym days, but either way I'm getting the work done.
